Learning from the Barn...
Selected work from my initial thesis research. Focusing on my own personal feelings and experiences with these types of structures, I delved into research. My exploration of agricultural barns led to an in-depth analysis of construction practices, natural
environmental considerations in the design, and the effects of region in use. I was immensely interested
in how the structures began to reflect their builders and process of making. This included how the holes
for ventilation were once places for scaffolding, the marks from the saw carving reflected in the beams,
and the use of logs from around the farm for bracing.
