North End Lantern
For two weeks, each student selected a site in Boston’s North End to build an
architectural intervention that was less than 30’ x 100’. My structure sits on a barge next to a large parking lot and water ferry stop. This space serves as a needed rest area for both
water ferry passengers and walkers who frequent the area. Most importantly, it
incorporates a tide-powered rising lantern that will serve as a reminder of the area’s historic tie to the harbor and past
industry. Becoming a beacon of the North End from the sea, it serves as an icon for the area as a whole.
